I’m very late writing this. As soon as we got back, Zack and I both got hit with a nasty cold and now I am gearing up for wedding season… so all that to say… I’m finally going to get the blog posts up of our trip to Italy & Greece!
We flew into Rome and took a train from the Fiumicino Airport and took the Leonardo Express (the direct train from the airport to train hub in Roma) to the Roma Termini. From there we took a train to Venice. The train ride was a little less than 4 hours and it was perfectly comfortable. In between naps, the views were breathtaking. We arrived in Venice and was pleasantly surprised with how gorgeous it was. Fun fact about Venice (I knew it, but I didn’t), there are no cars. Anywhere. They have water taxis as a means to get around, but we decided to make the twenty-ish minute walk to our Air BnB.
Alsooooo… Guys, we overpacked. Big time. We both used almost everything we packed, but two large suitcases, Zack’s backpack, and my camera equipment were a bit much, so next time we do a trip like this, we will most definitely simplify.
Back to Venice… We got to our Air BnB and it was beautifully nestled in the heart of Venice. Honestly, I didn’t plan a single thing for Venice because everyone (I mean, everyone) just said to get lost and explore and they were SO right. We meandered the tiny streets and gorgeous canals and found some of the most beautiful places. The tiny alleys and little nooks were perfect. We fell in love with Venice.
This was the BEST coffee and hot chocolate that we have EVER had in our entire lives. The Florian Cafe in Venice is to die for (expensive) but to die for!!
SUSO gelato was nothing short of incredible. Gelato is obviously superior to ice cream, but SUSO was simply magical.
The tan building above is the (now) opera house where Marco Polo lived.
This picture is quintessential Venice. Almost everywhere you turn looks just like this. The terra-cotta colored homes, narrow canals, flower box filled balconies and gondolas.
Venice was nothing short of amazing and may be one of my favorite places in Italy. Have more questions about our trip to Venice? Comment below and I’d love to answer any questions you have!!
